1. Introduce yourself! What kind of art do you make?
HAI, I'm Ouroboros and I make (or at least try) to make anything I can get my hands on. I've always been writing and drawing and more recently coding/web design/game dev, but I've dabbled in filmmaking, ceramics, animation, 3D modeling, music, etc.
2. How long have you been making art?
For as long as I can remember. The earliest things I've made that I still have are from the late 2000s (for context, I was born in 2004).
3. How many hours do you spend for each piece?
For individual pieces I've consistently gotten between 2 and 8 hours, but for anything long term or more ambitious I can take literal decades.
4. Do you prefer taking your time or do you like to quickly move on to the next thing?
I prefer to take my time, but I do tend to work on multiple things simultaneously.
5. When do you decide a piece is finished?
I don't.
6. What part of the creation process do you enjoy the most?
I'm a freak who loves lineart, I am also a freak who loves editing/refining. Going back over the same thing multiple times until it's "perfect" scratches my brain.
7. What part of the creation process do you dislike the most?
I hate and also suck at posing (this is part of the reason why I draw 3/4ths busts so much), along these same lines I also really hate planning, especially when it comes to writing.
8. Do you have a designated workstation or do you just work wherever?
I rarely do traditional art, but when I do, literally anywhere can be a suitable workspace. For anything digital I tend to stick to my desktop since my drawing tablet is very unwieldy, and I prefer big screens for anything creative.
9. Do you monetize you work or is it purely a hobby?
I don't currently, but I have wanted to for a while, unfortunately I am the worst person to be doing commissions.
10. Where do you share your work? On social media or a personal websites? Do you keep to yourself and close friends?
I share my work pretty much everywhere, I have a couple accounts on multiple art websites and I have a tumblr blog, but my website is definitely the premiere place to view all my art, especially anything from before 2024.
11. What's an aspect of your art you enjoy?
I really like how I tend to use very bright, really saturated colors.
12. What are things you would like to improve on?
Despite my last answer, I really think I need to improve how I use colors, a lot of my finished works use colors really well imo but the work it takes to get there is Bad.
13. Are you self-taught or had formal education?
a mix of both. A majority of the things I've learned about every medium I've tried is self-taught (especially in art and writing). I've taken the most classes on coding (mostly for my degree), a couple on traditional painting both in high school and college, one on filmmaking in college, and one during my senior year in high school on creative writing.
14. Do you research about old techniques or stick to newer ones?
I don't research techniques.
15. What do you value more, experimentation or mastery? experimentation definitely, yeah getting real good at drawing something realistically or mastering how to draw the human form is impressive, but it's not really interesting on its own.
16. Do you practice drawing with your arm? What other art techniques to you practice? If I don't get at least one cramp in the process of making something, I'm not a real artist (please help me)
17. How frequently do you do studies? I rarely if ever do, but I've been trying to do them more often recently.
18. Do you understand color theory? How'd you learn or do you want to? I kind of understand it, but not enough to employ it in my own work. I learned it partly from looking at colors and being like "that looks good" and actually being taught.
19. Favorite color(s)? Yellow is my favorite color, but I also like red lime green and deep pink.
20. Are there colors you avoid? Do you think ugly colors exists? What makes a color ugly depends entirely on how you use it, ugly colors in and of themselves don't exist imo.
21. Can you do perspective? Kinda?
22. Do you like doing lineart? How do you go about it? I LOVE lineart, but I didn't always. I changed my technique once to get myself to like it more, and the way I did it was that I would make a sketch, and then I would keep erasing and refining it until it looked like lineart. Nowadays, I do it kinda more traditionally, but I still do a more sketchy style on my first pass and then erase any stray lines.
23. Do you have multiple unfinished projects? Will you ever get to finishing them? 😬
24. How do you start a new piece? Do you have a plan or just figure it along the way? All of my pieces start by me thinking about it really hard for like a week and then starting it with little to no planning. Anything more long term follows along these lines but more extended and with a little more planning.
25. How do you handle art block? Unfortunately, I've discovered that the best way to handle art block for me is to stop doing the thing for like a couple years and then coming back to it.
26. Do you listen to music or watch something while working? I tend towards watching something on the side (usually youtube), cause whenever I listen to music I listen to the same song on repeat and get sick of it.
27. When are you most motivated to create? In the morning or evening? Rainy or sunny? I'm the type of person who imagines a masterpiece at like 3 am and can't recreate it the next morning, I also tend to get inspired to write whenever it's windy.
28. Are your sketchbooks messy or aesthetically pleasing? A mix of both.
29. Do you like showing sketchbooks to others? Sometimes, and only when I'm there to curate what they see.
30. Do you have any art friends? IRL or online? literally all of my IRL friends are artists, and I don't have any online friends that I don't also know IRL.
31. Do you collaborate frequently with your friends? Is there something you'd like to work on together? I don't collaborate with anyone, I don't think I would like to at all.
32. Have you created art to gift to others? How do feel about parting away from your work? Other than artfight which doesn't really count imo, only once or twice, but it was only as like birthday presents and stuff. Both of them were physical, and I really hate not being able to archive them, but it's whatever.
33. Have you drawn for someone else? Like commissions or requests? Did you enjoy it? I have done a couple of requests and I participate in artfight every year, which is super fun. I have never done commissions, though.
34. How's your posture? 🦐
35. Have you ever been injured making art? No, but I've gotten real close
36. What's a medium of art you've wanted to try / currently attempting? I've only done 3D modeling like twice, and I've been slowly working my way towards picking it up again. Being able to make music is my white whale.
37. Do you prefer stylized or realistic art? STYLIZED, realistic art is super impressive from a skill standpoint, but other than that it's boring.
38. Do you like hyper-realistic art? See my last answer
39. Do you like abstract art? Yes, I am also the kind of person who likes those pieces that are just like one or two colors people like to get mad at.
40. How do you feel about fine art? Fine art is a really broad category of art, so I'm guessing this means modern/contemporary art? If it does, I think it's funny how up in arms people get about it, like bro it's pictures.
41. How do you feel about outsider art? Do you think you fall in that category? I think only engaging with art that's made by people who've been taught by other artists is insane, and I guess I kinda fall into that category?
42. Do you follow art trends? I don't think so? I've gotten inspired by certain artists and incorporated some of their quirks into my own art, but I would hardly call any of them "trendy"
43. Do you think your art is influenced by what's currently popular? I don't even know what's currently popular
44. Do you compare yourself with others? Does it affect you negatively? Sometimes it does, and I have fallen into the trap of "this artist is so much younger and so much more talented than me, I'm a failure" but 99% of the time I'm like "oooh i should do that too" when I see art I like.
45. Your controversial art take? Idk really know how controversial this is, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to in your art process. Don't want to do lineart? Don't. Don't want to color? Don't. Don't want to study anatomy? Don't. Of course if you don't like these things cause you're bad at them doing them more will help you improve but at the end of the day it's your art, do it in a way that makes you happy.
46. Art related pet peeves? I don't really have any? There's not a lot of things that people can do with their art that annoy me.
47. Who or what are your inspirations? Homestuck and a lot of similar webcomics were huge inspirations to me both in my art and writing back in the 2010s. Undertale and Deltarune will eternally be inspirations to me, so will horror ARGs like Everyman Hybrid and Marble hornets, games like Doki Doki Literature Club and anything really weird like The Stanley Parable. Meta horror in general has always been something that has influenced me, and literally all of my dream projects incorporate stuff like it.
48. What's an art piece / artist you wished got more attention? Louis Waine is my favorite painter, and I wish more people knew about him, he made my favorite painting too, it's called cat advancing I'm pretty sure. Anything that's online horror/a horror game outside the big two: FNAF/mascot Horror, and slenderverse/creepypastas are all underrated as well, and there are way too many I like to list here. Sagan Hawkes has made a bunch of amazing videos on some of them and even made an unfiction video himself that I adore! Anything by Alan Resnick, the guy who made this house has people in it, is a must-watch too. (I have to stop here because if I don't this answer will be 10x longer than the rest of them)
49. Have you touch grass recently? Do you go out frequently or do you spend most of your time indoors? For the half of the past year I've spent literally 99% of my time inside, and I may have gone a little crazy, so now I spend most of my time outside.
50. Do you create art daily? If I did, I think I would die.
51. Do you take breaks from creating? How frequently? My breaks range from a couple weeks to like multiple decades.
52. Do you set deadline for your work? Other than trying to put out a myblace update every other week then no, and most of the time if it's self-enforced it doesn't even work.
53. Do you archive your work? Do you keep old pieces? I try to archive literally everything, I have a 1 tb hardrive that has everything I've made from all the way back in 2009.
54. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Or are you indifferent by it? I've never really been embarrassed by my old work, of course there are a couple of things I look at and are like "eeeeh I could have done that better" but overall I'm indifferent and there are a couple of pieces from years ago I'm still really proud of.
55. Do you seek out for criticism? How do you handle feedback? I don't really seek out feedback, but I do really like seeing how people view my work and how I can improve/better get across my ideas.
56. Are you harsh on your own work? Or do you love your work despite all it's flaws? I've never really been that harsh on my own work, at worst I've been indifferent to it. A lot of my drawing quirks/flaws that I notice are also things I really like and even intentionally include in my work from time to time.
57. Do you get compliments frequently? How do feel about them? I don't really get compliments that frequently, but when I do I don't really understand it (that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them, though). I've gotten the most compliments on my lineart, and I've never gotten why.
58. How do feel about the rise of generative AI? Do you use it for getting ideas or references? I don't use it at all when it comes to art, but I feel like a lot of people who are artists and completely swear it off don't really know the things you can do with it outside of like "chatgpt generate anime art of my favorite anime girl but give her massive tits," or that you can use it as a tool that doesn't do literally everything for you.
59. How do feel about tracing? What about tracing 3d models to streamline art process? Tracing can be good in really early sketching just to get the idea down onto paper, but anything I trace rarely makes it into the finished piece.
60. Drop you art resources! google images.......
61. Do you prefer making fanart or original content? ORIGINAL, literally less than 10% of my entire body of work is made up of fanart.
62. Do you think original content are more creative than fanart? HELL no.
63. Do you strive for originality? I try not knowingly copy any ideas like one to one, but being completely original is literally impossible.
64. Do you draw from imagination or heavily rely on references? I rarely if ever use references, and if I do, it's probably only like one glance at google images. 99% of the stuff I draw is from my imagination.
65. Do you think using references is a crutch? No, and I think that line of thinking is so stupid.
66. Do you like to make mood boards or scroll through Pinterest? I rarely make moodboards, and I've sworn off pinterest, but I do have a folder on my computer just labeled "Aesthetics" where I save any images I like to look at.
67. Does your work have a story behind them or do you just make things that you think look neat? Literally everything I make has a story behind it, and I am tortured by them constantly.
68. Do you think art should have a purpose? Nope, it definitely can, but it's not a requirement to make something art.
69. Favorite aesthetic? I ADORE really early 3D art/modeling, especially anything by Paul Wiley.
70. Do you have a muse or a theme you fall back to? I've noticed that I tend to create characters that have doppelgängers or are actually 2 or more people and/or who aren't human and try to emulate humanity. Which could mean nothing
71. If you could eat you art, what would it taste like? It would taste and feel exactly like sour patch kids candy (I literally once had my art described as looking like gummies).
72. If your work suddenly became sentient, would it adore or hate you? Some weird hate-based obsession that looks indistinguishable from adoration, like AM from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream but less torture.
73. Based on previous question, can you win in a fist fight against it? It would be a real close call and there would be a lot of blood, but my art would win
74. Is your art style consistent? Do you prefer making a wide variety of art? I feel like my art style is pretty consistent, everything I make seems pretty similar in looks to me, almost eerily so.
75. Do you revisit old concepts or sketches? Do you touch em up or leave them as is? I can literally never leave anything I've made alone, you could make a whole family tree of how one design I made from like 2010 has evolved into like 20 different characters, and I've been developing and redeveloping one of my dream projects for the past 13 years.
76. Do you believe in talent or is it all skill? I don't really believe in talent. Like, yes some people are gonna be naturally better at some things than others either because of life experience, personality, how they were raised or whatever, but it still takes skill to know how to use that talent and people who don't have a talent for something can still become just as good as or better than people who do.
77. What's your favorite thing to draw / make? Do you prefer making living things or still life? I love drawing animals, humans, mythical creatures, and any combination of thereof. I've made still lives/paintings of places and stuff, and although it was pretty fun, it definitely didn't scratch that itch.
78. Do you create your art with a specific audience in mind? Who? Me and anyone who can match my freak.
79. How do you feel about people taking inspiration from work? Do you think art style theft is real? I get so excited whenever people get inspired by anything I've made, and I literally can't wrap my head around getting angry about that.
80. Do you participate in art conventions? Do you sell your work or support everyone else? I've gotten a couple of commissions from other people, but I've never been to a convention art-based or otherwise (although I really want to).
81. Are you art materials expensive? Do you hoard any tools? Other than my drawing table/computer and a couple of copics I got like years ago, a majority of the things I use were either free or cost like 10 dollars at walmart. I definitely hoard tools too, I have like 100 different pencils kicking around my room at any given point in time.
82. Do you organize you supplies and tools systematically? I try to, but 99% of the time when I use something it does not go back in the place I had it before I used it.
83. Do you clean up after a project? Or do you just leave everything lying around till you need the space? I don't really do anything that often that requires a lot of supplies, but when I do, I try to put everything back when I'm done
84. Do you have a ritual before you start creating? Do you have a drink or some snacks? I can jump in head first at any time.
85. How do feel about censorship in art? Where do you draw the line for inappropriate art? No art is inappropriate, and It betrays a very specific mindset *cough*fascist*cough* whenever someone tries to portray art as something that needs to be censored.
86. Do you censor your own art? Do you feel like you leave out details for it be socially accepted? I definitely don't post/show people things that I feel are NSFW or that I just don't want to show anyone for whatever reason, but in the process of creating it, i never intentionally hold anything back or censor myself.
87. Do you feel intimated with starting a new projects? I wish I was intimidated by starting new projects, other than the classic ADHD "it's hard for me to switch tasks" pain, I start projects like I'm eating chips.
88. Are you scared of your art regressing? Do you think it's even possible to get worst at art? I feel like regressing or getting bad at art is an entirely internal perception. Like, sure, your art is definitely gonna change if you don't do it for a while/get rusty or learn a different way of doing things, but that's all it's gonna do, it'll change, whether that change is for the worse is subjective.
89. Do you frequently make compromises for your work? Does your art come out the way you envision them? The only thing that stops me from making art the exact way I've envisioned it is my own skill, and even then I put may all into learning when I want to make something.
90. How well do you manage your mistakes? Do you stress about them? If I catastrophized about making mistakes in my work, I wouldn't be making art, and tbh sometimes mistakes make a piece better.
91. Do you make lists of things you'd like to make? Do you actual commit to them? A majority of the things I plan on making never leave me until I do or forget about it (I should probably make a list).
92. What is your ultimate goal of your work? Like, is to tell a story, connect with others, or just to enjoy the process? Telling a story definitely, I wouldn't be creating if I didn't have a story to tell. I also enjoy the process of creating as well, no matter how painful it is.
93. What's something you've recently worked on that you're really proud of? I'm currently developing my first video game, and I'm really proud of how far I've gotten and how accurate it is to how I envisioned it. It's still a really long way from being playable and even longer away from being done, but I'm still really proud (I'll probably add a link here once I get a playable version done).
94. Do you have any dream projects? Have you started on them? I have like 3 and the video game I mentioned in my last answer is one of them.
95. Would you prefer unlimited money or unlimited time to make your projects? unlimited money, no competition.
96. Why do you create art? What the fuck else am I gonna do.
97. Are you happy with what you create? I haven't always been, but currently yeah.
98. Do you think everyone should make art? YES!!!!!!!
99. What's advice you'd give to newer artist? Do whatever the fuck you want forever, and if you're not having at least a little bit of fun, you're probably doing something wrong.
100. When did you finish this? How'd you feel? Finished on November 3rd 2025! I really liked it, it made me think a lot about my art in ways I haven't before.
